This evening, while at Perkins with ivanaduboise and minnesattva, I decided upon the names of my children: Vic and Sue ... that's right, Victorious Awesome Xavier and Superfluous Amazing Xavier.¹

For some reason, adjectives, especially those with three or four syllables, sound good as names to me. I'm not entirely surprised, as I don't much care for people only choosing names—like George, Cheryl, and Jim-Bob—that would be approved by an important-sounding focus group like Panel for the Allocation of Names to Irrelevant Children, or the American Council of Name Examination. I think that full names should be interesting and unique. There's really no downside, because anyone can assume a boring nickname for casual use, if they so choose.

Maybe it's just that I'm disappointed that my mom wouldn't let my dad name me Melchizedek.
